About Jarrah/Blackbutt Honey
Black Butt trees grow in moist soil usually near rivers and creeks in the Jarrah forests. Like many Eucalyptus trees, Blackbutt is becoming rare both due to logging and unpredictable flowering. The honey is dark in colour, similar to Jarrah – it stays liquid for a long time.
Blackbutt honey is incredibly high in anti oxidants, gives a dark appearance to the honey and makes it less sweet. This combination of variety’s is done naturally by the bees due to migrating the hives whilst the honey boxes are half/3/4 full of jarrah honey. Level of activities at major enzymes in honey are identified and measured by scientists which resulting an overall data of honey activity index as total activity referring as “TA”. The larger number represents the stronger antibacterial level of the honey.
The use of honey as an alternative therapy to combat infection by antibiotic resistant organisms is gaining ground with new research confirming the medicinal benefits of the natural product. We source the jarrah honey from local beekeepers in the north of Perth, Australia. The honey is 100% raw, just lightly filtered as to leave all the good stuff in it.
